While employees are fundamentally accountable for any behaviour change as part of their professional development... ...it is the hashtag#LEADER who plays a key role in optimizing and supporting the development of their teams.&nbsp;Our clients understand the importance of not only investing in the development/upskilling of their employees to help improve retention, engagement &amp; business results - they explicitly identify and support how the participant's manager will support the learning journey.&nbsp; &nbsp; Below are some actions leaders can take of workshop participants:1. Follow-up actions: ➡ Establish clear tasks: assign specific follow-up tasks related to the content of the workshop. These tasks could include implementing new processes, practising new skills or applying the knowledge gained. ➡ Regular follow-ups: Schedule follow-up meetings to monitor participants’ progress. The pressure on set is high, but impulsive reactions create a toxic environment. Take a breath, assess the situation and decide how to respond constructively. Disagreements are okay, but disrespect is not.💡 𝐁𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬: we all have them! Actively work to recognise and challenge biases when making decisions or evaluating teams without context. Look for different perspectives and create space for open communication.💡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Keep your team informed and involved. Create safe spaces where you can address concerns immediately and be open to feedback.💡 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠: Be aware that long working hours and stressful working conditions can have an impact on mental and physical wellbeing. Ensure clear, consistent communication at all levels. Take into account different preferences, from town halls to face-to-face team meetings, and create safe spaces for open discussion.🔋𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬: They are the bridge between leadership and the workforce. Train them and equip them with skills to manage change – this can be anything from encouraging open communication to conflict resolution. Remember that empowered managers empower their teams.🔢𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚: Don't go into this transformation blindly. Use surveys, focus groups and data analysis to understand employee sentiment and readiness. HR Leaders: Lead the Charge in Transformation!

⚠ Can business leaders learn from Donald Trump?My brother - Miguel Villamizar - shared with me a thought-provoking article by George Monbiot in The Guardian in which he examines the rise of Donald Trump and the continued support he receives and attributes this to the dominance of extrinsic values. Extrinsic values prioritise wealth, power and individual rewards over cooperation and empathy.&nbsp;This perspective has implications for corporate culture: ➡ Organisations that prioritise extrinsic values run the risk of fostering a culture of competition, self-interest and aggression. ➡ In contrast, companies that promote intrinsic values such as empathy and community cultivate collaboration, inclusivity and shared goals.Throughout the week, as I reflected on the article, I couldn't stop drawing parallels to the corporate world and thinking about suggestions for how leaders can positively shape their organisational culture and create business impact. Here are my suggestions:&nbsp;1️⃣ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 that aligns policies and practices with internal ideals 2️⃣ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 through cross-functional projects and team-building activities 3️⃣ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 through comprehensive wellness programs and supportive HR programs&nbsp; 4️⃣ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 through leaders who embody intrinsic valuesBy prioritising intrinsic values, leaders can create a culture that promotes collaboration, well-being and long-term success. I believe that decisions made in cultivating corporate culture have far-reaching implications for organisations and society.

📢 Are performance reviews dead? It's clear that organisations need to rethink their approach to performance management in order to motivate employees and encourage excellence. This is something I am grateful to have learned from my time at Netflix.&nbsp;Let me share with you three personal views:1️⃣ Regular &amp; informal coaching conversations: I believe that performance conversations should be ongoing and integrated into daily work routines. It's simply not effective to wait until the annual review to provide feedback. By fostering a culture of continuous feedback, managers can recognise good work in real time and provide guidance when needed. Transparency is critical so that employees clearly understand what is expected of them and how their performance will be evaluated.2️⃣ Leveraging strengths: Traditional performance appraisals can often focus on weaknesses, which can be demoralising for employees. Shifting the focus to recognising and leveraging strengths is more supportive and encourages employees to perform at their best. Supervisors should play a supportive role by helping employees identify their goals and providing them with the necessary resources and support to achieve them.3️⃣ Empathy and understanding: Managers should approach performance conversations with empathy and seek to understand the employee's perspective. It's important to remember that everyone has unique challenges and circumstances. By being open-minded and considering different viewpoints, managers can create a safe and inclusive environment where employees feel heard and valued.It's encouraging to see companies like GE, Deloitte and GAP taking steps to overhaul their performance management programmes. This shift towards continuous feedback and real-time appraisal isn't just a passing phase, but an ongoing trend that goes hand in hand with the changing dynamics of the modern workplace.However, it's important to realise that there are still challenges to overcome. Bias, inconsistency and time-consuming processes can hamper the effectiveness of performance management. Organisations need to address these issues by implementing fair and objective evaluation criteria, providing training for managers and using technology to streamline the process.The traditional model of performance appraisal is outdated and ineffective. Through regular, empathetic and strengths-based conversations, leaders can create a culture of continuous growth, engagement and outstanding work.&nbsp;Let's evolve and improve our performance management practises to unleash the full potential of our employees and drive organisational success!
